Kingdom Come is a game similar in concept to Risk and Global War, however
it employs many new features and concepts which make gameplay more enjoyable
than ever before! It was designed to run on a wide variety of systems and
can even be played locally or on a network.
The places and names in this game are fictitious. Any resemblance to
actual persons or places from any time is purely coincidental.

Future Enhancements
───────────────────────
■ A friendly CONFIG.EXE program so you don't have do bother with manually
editing the KC.CTL file. :-)
■ More maps!
■ Daily log file to let users know who attacked them.
* The above enhancements were not included in this release due to time and
resource constraints. When I receive more registration forms for this game,
I will invest more time into improving and enhancing the game.

Installation
────────────────
1st Time Installation
─────────────────────────
First, create a new directory (we'll use C:\KC\ for this example) and move
all the files from the ZIP archive into it. Next, change directory to C:\KC\
and run UNPACK.BAT. Now edit KC.CTL and check/update all the settings
contained within. Finally, set up your BBS to call the included KC.BAT file
(edit KC.BAT and customize it for your system). The command line to call
KC.BAT should look something like this:
C:\COMMAND.COM /C KC.BAT /PD:\BBS\NODE*N /N*N
Where *N is the BBS node number. RemoteAccess uses the *N parameter, but
your BBS software may require a different syntax. See your BBS manual for
details. KCRUN.EXE MUST BE EXECUTED FROM THE MAIN KC DIRECTORY OR IT WILL
NOT WORK! (See the included KC.BAT for an example.)
That's it! Have fun! :-)
For a quick peek at the game, run "KCRUN.EXE /L" at the command line.
Upgrade Installation
────────────────────────
If you are upgrading from a version of Kingdom Come prior to 0.20.ß you
must perform a "1st Time Installation" as described above.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐

Local or Network Play
─────────────────────────
Type "KCRUN.EXE /L" to play locally (see "Command Line Options" below).
When all players are present in the room (or on the network) and you want to
take more than one turn per day, you will have to run REFRESH.EXE. Let's
pretend game "Z" is in progress. After all players have taken their turn,
run "REFRESH.EXE Z" at the command prompt. This will "fool" the game into
thinking it is the next day, and will allow players to take their next turn
right away instead of waiting the minimum 12 hours between turns.
Note to SysOps: You can use REFRESH.EXE to take extra turns and cheat on
your users, but you WILL get caught! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. :-)
Normally, completed games are automatically deleted after a few days, but
local play causes games to be completed faster and the game register will
fill up quickly. You can manually delete a game from the \KC\GAME\ directory
by using the DEL command (example: "DEL C:\KC\GAME\GAMEZ.*").

Command Line Options
────────────────────────
REQUIRED PARAMETER! REQUIRED PARAMETER! REQUIRED PARAMETER!
"/Nx" (where x is 1..255) This specifies a "node number".
REQUIRED PARAMETER! REQUIRED PARAMETER! REQUIRED PARAMETER!
"/Pyyy" This specifies the path to the drop files. For example,
"/PC:\BBS\NODE1" would tell KCRUN.EXE to look for the drop file in
C:\BBS\NODE1. If this is left out the program assumes the drop
file is local.
"/Bxxxxx" Use this to lock your baud rate at xxxxx. In order to get the most
efficiency out of a high speed error correcting modem (9600 baud
or above), you may lock the baud rate to a speed higher than what
the caller is actually using. By locking the baud to say 38,400,
the modem can compress text data that is being sent and achieve a
baud rate much higher than the actual transmission rate.
This will lock the baud rate at the same value for all nodes that
use this command line. If you prefer a more selective way to lock
baud use 'LOCKBAUD' command in the .CTL file.
"/Cx" (where x is 1..4) This specifies a comport number. Some BBS
software does not create door information files (dropfiles) that
contain the comport number. If your BBS does have a comport
listed in the dropfile then there is no need for this parameter.
The default is comport 0, local mode.
"/E" Expanded Memory Specification If your machine has over one
megabyte of memory, then you may have some available. KCRUN.EXE
can utilize EMS to improve game performance and reduce
conventional memory requirements. This command will tell KCRUN.EXE
to use EMS memory to hold its overlay buffer. Otherwise disc area
may be used to hold this buffer. This needs a memory manager and
when enabled and is compatible with DESQview. Default is NOT to
use any available EMS.
"/L" This tells KCRUN.EXE to load up in LOCAL mode. This is good for
testing or when a sysop just wants to "try out" the door without
messing with his BBS setup. The "/L" mode will ask the user for
his name and run the door in local mode.
"/Mx" (where x is up to 2 filename acceptable characters) Used to
specify one of multiple control files. If you have created more
than one KC.CTL file (KC1.CTL, KC2.CTL, etc.) for each node or
network PC then you can select the one you want by using the /M
parameter.
Example: "/M2" will force KCRUN.EXE to use KC2.CTL.
"/V" This command will tell KCRUN.EXE not to show any display on the
local screen. Only a colored screen and a message will be
displayed. The cursor will not move as it will be turned off.
Saves a little processing on multi-tasking systems.
"/W" This flags the program that a network is present even though no
multitaskers are detected. This is useful if the door is run on a
network such as Novell that doesn't use multitaskers.

Support and Distribution
────────────────────────────
If you have comments, questions or bug reports, you may reach me at
paw@calweb.com. Unfortunately, my BBS went down in November of 1996, so I am
no longer reachable via FidoNet mail. ALL CORRESPONDENCE *MUST* INCLUDE THE
VERSION NUMBER OF KINGDOM COME!
The latest version will be made available at my internet web site. Point
your browser to http://www.calweb.com/~paw/software.html. The only way I can
release new updates is through this site. Also, registered users will
receive free upgrades via e-mail for as long as this is a practical option
for me.
